Health Care Company Refuses one Form of Technology

ASA Opts for True Customer Service Over Phone Recordings
The Pittsburgh-based health care company Automated Security Alert has a shockingly good record for taking care of their clients. The health care technology company is devoted to keeping senior citizens and physically disabled persons in their own home instead of in assisted living – and their clients have a 46.42{3402490d46c3e44cbf74e65c3ca57dba5eae5940cfa2518bcec2b52549eecda4} lesser rate of hospitalization. Far from using only push button medical alarms to care from their clients, they also offer electronically monitored medication dispensers, monitored smoke detectors, fall detectors, and many other advanced products. So for a company that embraces so many forms of advanced technology it is quite surprising to think that they would refuse to use any form of modern technology, but Automated Security Alert has a firm belief that when someone calls them on the phone they owe them the right to speak to a human being. In an era of frustrating and time consuming pre-recorded telephone menus, Automated Security Alert refuses to conform to the idea that people should be forced to communicate their needs to a computerized system. However, this does not only apply to office business hours only, it applies 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Jason Seyler, director of Life Safety commented on the refreshing policy, -With many companies using Interactive Voice Response technologies, consumers are rarely ever able to speak with a live person during the first few minutes of the call . . . Automated Security Alert does not use these technologies due to the importance of our consumers. Live people answer our phones at all times, day and night. Subscribers can call our office at 1-800-338-7114 at any time with any questions or concerns that they have.- Automated Security Alert, Inc., has provided freedom and security since 1988 to over 60,000 consumers through the use of technology and services that enable seniors, physically-challenged persons and recovering patients to maintain an independent lifestyle in their homes. ASA’s creative, dependable solutions include medical alert systems (-personal emergency response systems-); fall detection systems; and medication management systems, including electronic pill dispensers and monitored automated medication dispensers. Seniors Using Webinars To Learn More About Health Care

For many companies, the decision to use webinars is based on enhancing workflow and cutting cost. It is clear, however, that video conferencing services has many real world applications as well. The most obvious benefits of utilizing these tools are really just the tip of the iceberg. One recent example of this is an undertaking by the National Family Caregivers Association (NFCA) in Suffolk with using webcast to disperse information.

In November, the NFCA in collaboration with Home Instead Senior Care put on free web conferencing. The aim was to help families coping with caring for elderly parents to make decisions and understand potential problems. The 45-minute online conference addressed vital issues and featured well known professionals in the field of senior care.

Senior care is a growing concern in the US. Using webinar software to enhance care and making decisions is a giant step in the right direction. The facilities of a good video conferencing software can also be applied to other areas. These include:

Distance education
Sales team mobilization
Product promotion
Customer service
Staff training
Technical support

Other areas of the health care sector can also be improved by the use of a video conferencing system. Todays web conference systems are pricey as earlier. Providers like RHUB Communications have created products that give any company or organization the ability to be flexible.

The web conference systems today are based on speed, reliability, and enhanced communication. Some of the features of the best web conference services are:

Remote desktop control
Multi-tiered tech support
Recording of conferences or webinars
File transfer and remote printing

A web conference like the one put on by the NFCA creates opportunities for others facing similar situations. Not surprisingly, the decision to have the web conference was largely influenced by the current economic climate.

Users today have the option of hosted services, downloadable software or self hosted, in house solutions. RHUB appliance is an example which many companies find to be preferable to hosted solutions. However, even the most basic web conference systems have helped companies streamline their operations and improve productivity.

This will no doubt set a new trend for other cash strapped communities looking to provide care for the elderly. Special needs organizations, private health care facilities and similar groups could also explore the use of online conferencing for delivery of information.

Medical School Admissions Process Decoded

Getting into medical school is exceedingly challenging. Well over forty thousand prospective applicants enter into the application cycle each year with less than fifty percent obtaining admission. Success calls for a lot more than scholastic and extracurricular expertise and experience. It takes finding out the actual requirements of the various admissions committees, having good recommendations, and authoring impressive essays which get their attention.

Although the specific application system doesn’t open up until June of the calendar year before matriculation, the actual medical school admissions process actually starts the very day you enter college or university. It does not matter if you are applying during your junior year of college or even a few years subsequent to graduating, the committees will start by evaluating your scholastic and extracurricular experience starting as far back as freshman year! Normally, high school situations don’t seem to be applicable except when there are extraordinary circumstances. This is particularly the case if you can show experience in the medical field during your high school years. If this is the case, then you would address it in your personal statement.

You should commence with the main application form the January prior to when you plan your matriculation. Yes, this is in fact 21 months before you actually start medical school! Plan to spend January to April scheduling, planning, and taking the Medical College Admissions Test, securing recommendations, and requesting transcripts from all schools which you have taken courses (you must include all grades for all courses). May and June are all about writing the actual American Medical College Application Service application, which is the primary application. The AMCAS includes a work/activities segment as well as the notorious personal statement. As soon as you’ve completed the AMCAS application form, July to September is devoted to secondary applications (otherwise called secondaries). Secondary applications are a grueling aspect of the admissions process wherein individual schools send their own application asking for between zero to ten supplemental essays on subjects covering anything from diversity towards the greatest error in judgement you’ve ever made (yes, that’s an actual question). Medical school admissions interviews take place from October through January. February is a time of limbo during which not much happens. While various medical school admission’s committees (particularly those which have a rolling admissions), will inform you regarding your acceptance, wait list, or rejection standing prior to the spring, you typically won’t hear something until about March or April. By May fifteenth, every applicant who has been given an acceptance offer from two or more schools will have to decide on specifically where he or she wishes to attend and withdraw applications from all other schools. The admissions process basically ends on the first day of school when you put on that white lab coat and officially become a Doctor.

Making Construction Safe in the Hospital and Other Medical Buildings

The need for medical facility expansion continues. However, when adding on to an existing structure, there are two options: closing the entire building down or putting in dust containment systems. When working on a single room, a hospital containment cart is an option. This type of cart provides a portable solution to keep dust and particles from a small area from escaping to the larger area. This dust containment unit will pull larger amounts of air through the system with the finest filters catching the smallest particles possible. This kind of system allows construction in a tight place where patient health is important.

A proper hospital containment cart will work well in areas where minor construction and maintenance work happens. The cart should move easily in tight spaces. It should go into place and lock down to provide a stable containment area. These carts require a place to plug in and usually take no more than two minutes to setup. For those doing routine maintenance tasks, easy setup is essential. It will help them keep on going and get the work done quickly. Moreover, in the process they will keep the dust and particulates out of the air that patients and staff breathe.

A portable hospital containment cart must be portable and easy to setup. Wheeling into place, the user locks the unit down. The containment unit will move into place around the area of maintenance. After plugging it in, a simple switch will turn the unit on. That will start the negative air flow. The air goes into a special filtration unit that filters out microscopic particulates and dust. The clean air then goes into the general are outside the containment unit. The breakdown process is just as easy to do. Maintenance workers can get the job done without a great deal of hassle for anyone.

Hospitals and other medical buildings need to have a portable hospital containment cart on their premises. No building is maintenance or repair proof. Things will happen and the maintenance staff will need to access areas of the building. Having a cart on hand will make their jobs much easier. They can move it into place and do the work within a couple of minutes of arrival. That allows them to get the job done and get gone before they disrupt work and patients. Depending on the size of the facility, having more than one on hand might make sense.
